Mama Rosa is a relatively new restaurant, barely 4 years old, but which already has a loyal clientele who eagerly come to have fun and taste the primarily Mexican cuisine, although they have fused elements of other world regions which enrich the dishes.
Upon entering I never imagined finding a restaurant looking as cheerful as you find the ambience here. Its concept is different in that you can choose a la carte from a list of starters, dishes and desserts for a set price of $185 pesos for three courses, or order the dishes separately with entries and desserts costing $45 pesos each and the main dishes are only $135 pesos.
They have full bar service at very reasonable prices and wine cellar composed of good brands of red and white wines of that combine well with their cuisine. ALL offered at reasonable prices. She ordered a strawberry margarita and I a vodka tonic.
Since it was evening, we decided to only order one dish and dessert. I must say that this decision took some work and that their entrees are really attractive dishes like salad of greens with roasted fruit and agave vinaigrette or a delicious cream of shrimp, among others.
She ordered the medallions of shrimp in chipotle sauce and pineapple. Five large pieces cooked to perfection and bathed in a sweet and sour sauce that reminded me a little some Eastern preparations accompanied with mashed sweet potatoes as a side dish that enhanced the flavor of the shrimp; a fine, well balanced dish with a flawless presentation.
I ordered the salmon on a bread crust with peppers on a bed of red pepper. The fish was cooked to the requested finish, the crusty bread was crunchy and very tasty and the tangy salmon was softened with red pepper sauce. Its taste, texture and overall presentation of the dish ensured enjoyment with all senses.
The night progressed slowly and it was time for dessert and we could not resist the temptation to order the tres leches cake; three cakes of fine, soft consistency, accompanied by three glasses with vanilla sauce, chocolate, and eggnog; a true delight.
On other occasions I have mentioned that it is very important that there is congruence between the cuisine, the presentation, the space, service, and of course the price to make a restaurant a winner with diners. This is not like some restaurants that confuse high prices with quality.
We will return to try other dishes, I'm sure we will enjoy them as well as those we enjoyed that night. Congratulations!
