Nautical Party on the Beach

Nautical Extravaganza 2010, an event for ocean lovers, brings together eleven different event related to water sports and maritime culture, between February 18 and March 20 in Riviera Nayarit, which seeks to position itself as the nautical destination par excellence of the Mexican Pacific.
La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, with its modern marina, will host most of these events, while the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta is the sub-site of the Nautical Extravaganza which includes seven events under the umbrella of the Mexico Cup Regatta, 2010 Edition of Vallarta Race and the Banderas Bay Regatta, the Latin America Boat Show and the first stage of the 2012 Challenge with sailor Tania Elias.

MEXORC
Some of the largest and most powerful yachts in the world will be in the Riviera Nayarit to compete in eight races over seven days. The Mexorc class, with more than five categories, will be the most spectacular in Mexico Cup Regatta held at the Riviera Nayarit Marina at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
Emotions will be running high on Sunday February 28 during the opening ceremony to be held at the marina at 10:30am. The categories participants will have been defined according to the vessel ratings and the number of vessels registered. The adrenaline will be flowing over the following days with four windward-leeward competitions, in runs of eight nautical miles, the Gold Cup, 10 nautical miles long and three major competitions.
The ocean-going yachts are vessels with all the equipment needed to live aboard. Their fuel is the wind with unlimited availability, allowing them to sail across the seas of the world. The average crew on board is 17 people involved and the dimensions of the vessels vary between 37 and 80 feet in length-over-all.
The participants will arrive sailing yachts from distant national and international ports. Many people take up to 12 days to arrive in Riviera Nayarit.

OPTIMIST
The youngest sailing competitors make up the Optimist class, one of the most popular categories for teaching sailing to children and youth. They will see action between March 3 and 7.
This race will serve as a qualifier to integrate Mexican teams participating in U.S. and European championships, so the invitation is open not only to Optimist helms but also the Laser and Laser Radial classes.
The Optimist is a favorite for teaching the new generation to navigate. In general, these boats are known as single-handed or a single crew, so the children gain greater self-confidence and develop their skills.

OTHER SPORTS
Riviera Nayarit is the ideal destination for the most innovative practice of water sports: kite-surfing, who will present a series of events, to be held between March 2 and 6 with the promise of great excitement and fun.
The five races will bring together the best exponents of this sport to the beaches of Bucerias. The 80 competitors registered so fare are from ten different countries and the organization has confirmed this includes 15 of the top-ranked competitors in the world. Qualifying races will be held February 27 and 28 February to determine who will represent Mexico in international competition.
In addition, freestyle competitions will open Thursday, March 4, with the over 60 competitors expected to register. Finally, on March 7, some of the professionals of this sport will give kite-surfing demonstrations for all attendees.
Now switching to land sports: a beach volleyball tournament will begin March 4. The tournament brings together four of America's most powerful duos. The same March 4 will see the start of the beach soccer tournament; a sport that is gradually gaining in popularity. The selection of Mexico as host makes it part of a quad of teams including Argentina, Spain and Portugal, all disputing the title.

PLEASE NOTE
Mexican sailor Tania Elias Calles arrives at this destination as part of the Nautical Extravaganza. In preparation for the 2012 Olympics, Tania set a Guinness world record for crossing the Gulf of California surfing only with the wind, and arrived at the marina in Riviera Nayarit, in what will be the first leg of he Challenge 2012. The second stage will be departing from Cancun to Puerto Progreso.

In turn, the 29th edition of Vallarta Race began at San Diego on February 18 with the final destination of the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta. Renowned crews are aboard ocean-class sailing vessels have assembled in San Diego and will sail the Pacific coast for ten days, competing to be the first to arrive at the Paradise Village Marina and take the trophy for the regatta.
