The Mexican Holy Week and Easter holidays are already upon us. Like every year, Puerto Vallarta welcomes thousands of tourists who come to enjoy all our city has to offer. So to you, welcome visitors, we offer beach options, as is typical this time of year. For those who want more than sun, sand and sea, they may opt for something out of the city, where you can enjoy the mountains and nature.

SAN SEBASTIÁN DEL OESTE
A magical town stationed in the Western Sierra Madres at an average altitude of 1.480 meters above sea level; a place where time forgot, with its streets and buildings of old town and the pure clean mountain air. It is located just 1½ hours by road from Puerto Vallarta and has an average annual temperature of 18.7 º C.

Where to eat:
Montebello: Italian restaurant.
Los Arrayanes: Mexican restaurant.

Where to stay:
Posada del Sol: a small vintage hotel in front to the main square.
La Galerita de San Sebastián: an eco-tourism development with independent cabins with comfortable rest.

Other places to visit:
La Bufa: the highest point of the region, accessible by car. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Sierra Madre.

Real El Alto: a small mining town that is located on the way to La Bufa, and saw its heyday during the eighteenth century.

MASCOTA
Also known as the Emerald of the Hill, the county town also preserves traces of ancient peoples, with its cobblestone streets and adobe facades that transport us to the past, with many buildings from the colonial era, while enjoying the calm fresh air, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of this region of Jalisco.

What to see:
Museo arqueológico: Located in the center of Mascot, has a large amount of archaeological found in the region.
Museo El Pedregal: This unique museum is full of art made in or with stones of various sizes and colors.
Laguna de Juanacatlán: This reservoir is located 14 km. away, and has a landscape worthy of admiration. Here you will find the Hotel Sierra Lago, one of the most exclusive in the region.

Mesón de Santa Elena: This seventeenth century mansion has rooms, a restaurant, bar, cable TV, and wireless internet.

Don't miss the "Las Sombrillas" ice cream shop and taste their traditional cola snow in addition to their delicious cookies.

TALPA DE ALLENDE
A devout Catholic town par excellence. For those who have not forget that Easter Holidays has Christian origins, Talpa may be your best option. It is located just over 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta in the vicinity of the Western Sierra Madres and enjoys a pleasant moderate climate. Religious pilgrims from around the country come to this place come to honor the Virgin of Talpa.

Places to visit:
Basílica de la Virgen de Talpa: Dating back to 1755, was erected to house the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Talpa.
Cristo Rey: A monument that stands on top of the hill that bears his name.

Where to eat:
Check out the market located next to the Basilica for birria Tacos al Pastor. You will not regret it!

More activities:
Be sure to try the traditional sweets of the region, such as rolls of guava, eggnog, famous Talpa gum as well as the local woodwork and other materials.

EL TUITO
A town located just 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, with an ideal climate for those looking to escape the heat of the city. This is a place to breathe the fresh clean air and explore the provincial atmosphere. You will find a wide variety of products such as organic coffee, sugar cane candy, brown sugar, cream cookies, raicilla, cheese, etc. Furthermore, from this point you can visit beaches south of the Bay, such as Tehuamixtle, Villa del Mar and Mayto, where you can camp and taste the delicious fresh seafood.

Where to eat:
Hacienda El Divisadero: A raicilla distillery that also functions as a hotel and restaurant. For food, enjoy their barbeque.
Rancho Altamira: An international food restaurant that offers additional services like canopy, fishing, ATV rides and Internet access.

Places to visit:
El Patio de Don Alfonso: XVI century mansion remodeled and restored.
Artesanías en Barro: The workshop of clay sculptor Don Fernando Castillon, who specializes in creating clay figures.

CAJÓN DE PEÑAS
South of Puerto Vallarta, about an hour and a half away, you'll find a huge man-made reservoir. This dam possesses great natural wealth, has a forest of Habillé, Barcino, Fig Devoradora, Common Fig, Parota and Primavera. It is also the habitat of over 150 species of birds, among which are ducks, pearl collar herons, cranes, orange breasted finches, egrets, crows, hummingbirds, and doves.

Activities:
Fishing: is it possible to capture specimens of sea bass, haddock, tilapia and shrimp.
Boat rides: to find your catch, visit some of the islands and the mouths of the 5 rivers that deposit water into Cajon de Peñas.

Places to visit:
La Quebrada: The nearest river is reached after 15 minutes by boat and a short hike. This is a series of waterfalls where you can take a refreshing swim.
El Guasimal: Is another of the outlets, here you can find natural ponds.

Where to eat:
At the edge of the dam you will find 9 restaurants where you can eat the catch of the day. We recommend the bass ceviche.

BEACHES

Puerto Vallarta has many beaches, which are usually very busy at this time of year. But, no worries! You always have the option of moving to nearby beaches for a little escape from the bustle. Remember to deposit your trash in the place intended for it. Please help keep the environment clean.

San Pancho
A town located about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta with a large a beautiful beach where you will find plenty of food and lodging services.

Sayulita
40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, this beach is ideal for camping and surfing. It also has many services.

Punta de Mita
Located at the north end of the bay, famous for its soft white sand and clear water. In the village of El Anclote you will find all necessary services.

Quimixto
Accessible only by boats that depart from Los Muertos Beach Pier in the Romantic Zone and Boca de Tomatlán. There are some services available.

Yelapa
It is also necessary to go boat departing form the same points. The beach is famous for the beautiful color of the water. You will find hotels, a spa, restaurants, and shops.
