May Cultural Festival

All this month, Puerto Vallarta will be filled with artistic expression through a traditional festival that takes place as an extension of the May Guadalajara Cultural Festival organized by the Secretary of Culture of the State. Here it is organized by the Arts and Culture Department of the City Council with support from the private sector.
This year's edition is part of the big celebrations of the bicentenial of Mexico's Independence and the centennial of the Mexican Revolution. The activities begin on Thursday May 13 and end on Monday May 31; the date which this Port was incorporated as a municipality in 1918 and named city in 1968. All events are free of charge.
The extensive program includes film screenings, lectures, concerts, theater and dance. The guest country this year is Chile, which will be represented by talent such as DJ Bitman, He will be promoting his latest album "Colour", was named best of 2009 by the prestigious magazine Rolling Stone. He is also credited with creating the soundtrack for the film "Sabado" (Saturday), and his role in the production of music for the film "Secuestro" (Abduction). In addition, some of his songs have been chosen for creating popular music video games like The Sims and FIFA Soccer '09. Recently, the New York trio Beastie Boys asked DJ Bitman to remix the song "B Boys in the Cut." One of the qualities of their live show is that there are musicos on stage are surrounded by a Latin atmosphere: mixed voices, melodies and performance with turntables and electronic sounds.
Another outstanding participant will be the Gajuca International Chilean experimental theater company with more than seven years of experience. They will perform the show "Mictlan the Ninth Circle." Their shows have been presented at major arts festivals in America, Europe and Asia. The company bases its performances on theater performance and Butoh dance technique, combining both disciplines in a changing artistic concept.
Special Mexican guests will be the traditional mariachi band, "Los Tios" in the municipality of Villa Purificación; the ranchero duet "Centenarios" (Centenarians) from San Miguel Cuyutlán, Jalisco; also folk ballet, orchestra and choir of Tomatlán. Local representatives will be "Proyecto Tacos", and the dance academy "Pro-Dannza" and the local folk group "Xiutla."
